How-to: writing a book review

Updated: Sep 10, 2021

Woohoo! As the official launch of Sensing draws nearer, many people are asking how to get a copy & where to write a review. Instead of texting the same thing repeatedly, here is a short & helpful how-to guide for helping my book find a home in the online marketplace.

Future Me seeing all these reviews

  1. Buy a copy: On this website I am selling exclusive *signed* copies of Sensing -- how awesome it that?! If you, however, prefer free shipping instead my book is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and at almost any indie bookstore you can think of. If you don't want to make Jeff Bezos richer, you can get FREE worldwide shipping from BookDepository.com. All preorders will ship on June 12th, which is less than 4 weeks away!

  2. Go online: Head over to Amazon, B&N, or Goodreads --> log in/create an account --> click on my book --> scroll down to the review section of the page. Since the pandemic rages on, I am unable to have in-person author events to spread the word about my books, which makes online reviews by regular readers all the more important! Most people use Amazon, so the more reviews of Sensing there are the better! :)

  3. Make it honest: I appreciate all kinds of feedback, but if you have any favorite poems (or favorite sections) please mention them in your review! Describing both invididual poems and/or the book as a whole will make your review more well-rounded. Many people end their reviews with a small statement saying to whom they'd recommend the book (teenagers, coworkers, young girls, etc.), but honestly a short statement telling the internet why you liked the book is just as helpful! Write whatever comes to mind when you think about my poetry.

  4. Post about it & tag me! I would love nothing more than to share your review on my social media -- and to give you a discount! Not every webpage informs me when my book has been reviewed, so if you screenshot or send me a link via social media I'll message you back with a unique discount code for my website. I mostly use Instagram but am on Facebook, Twitter, & TikTok as well.

Tada! A foolproof guide to showing some love for Sensing. But when it comes down to it, the best way to spread the word is to, well, spread the word! Be sure to tell all your friends and family that you know someone who wrote a book -- I often find there's nothing better than a personal recommendation from someone that you're close to. Whenever my mom tells me about a new book I always JUMP into reading it... and probably look something like this:

hehehe
